Repaint the walls neutral colours. If someone might have a bad opinion on the paint, then it’s not the right colour. Even if you’re in love with the big bold colours, consider repainting or touching up walls with neutral tones. This allows buyers to focus on the space itself, instead of reacting to the walls.
Keep it simple. To help buyers imagine themselves in your space, keep rooms simple. Start packing early and unclutter the place until it feels like a show home. This means putting away most of your ‘stuff’ that has slowly taken over countertops, bookshelves, TV stands etc. Clear surfaces with simple decor creates a wonderful feel for potential buyers.
Clean. Ever walk in the door after your spouse surprises you with a clean house? It just ‘feels’ different, doesn’t it? Well, potential buyers can pick up on those vibes too. Wipe down the walls, trim, and baseboards. Dust on top of the fireplace mantle and fan blades. Polish your appliances, faucets, and railings. Give the windows a thorough washing. If you’re too busy to stay on top of things, consider hiring a cleaning service.
Lighting. Open up all the windows to let in natural light and add floor or table lamps for areas that are dim. Replace any lightbulbs that need to be replaced. A bright, cheery room looks bigger and more inviting.
